A little about me

As a wife and mom of three wonderful kids, I’m passionate about supporting families through the incredible journey of birth. When I’m not diving into the beautiful chaos of childbirth, you’ll often find me volunteering at my children’s school or in my community. I also love hiking or splashing around in the pool with my little ones, cooking (especially Peruvian food), photography, and tending to my garden. Being multilingual—English, Spanish, French, and currently tackling Portuguese—opens up doors for me to connect with people and cultures from all over the world, which I absolutely love.

My Doula Journey

My interest in birth and maternity care sparked during my college days when a public health class shed light on the maternal health disparities faced by different communities of women. Although I initially pursued other paths to support my family after graduation, the desire to help struggling mothers and children never faded. Once I started my own family and experienced childbirth myself, I dove headfirst into the birth world, soaking up knowledge from books, podcasts, and community classes.

My journey into doula work began unexpectedly when my best friend asked me to be her doula. Despite feeling nervous, I embraced the challenge, seeking guidance from local doula training and realizing the immense value of supportive care during birth. Though her labor had its challenges, being there for her reinforced my determination to pursue doula work wholeheartedly.

I trained as a birth and postpartum doula through CAAPA in 2021 and began my career as a birth worker. I built my own birth business, Bella Luz Birth, that includes support for birth and postpartum, as well as a postpartum meal service. I have loved helping so many mothers in their journeys but this experience has also opened my eyes to the unfortunate reality that doula support often remains out of reach for many due to financial constraints. Driven by a deep-seated passion to make doula care accessible to all, I found my calling with Comunidad Materna en Utah and their transformative community doula support initiatives. I became a certified Birth and Postpartum Community Doula through Health Connect One in 2023 and then eagerly joined the Doulas for U project with Comunidad Materna and Manava Birth.

My Doula Philosophy

My personal philosophy as a doula is simple: I believe every mother deserves compassionate support, regardless of their circumstances. Doulas for U allows me to extend this support to mothers who might otherwise miss out on the invaluable assistance of a doula.

In essence, my journey as a doula is fueled by warmth, empathy, and an unwavering dedication to advocating for the well-being of mothers and families from all walks of life.
